Come Listen To Robert Plant & Alison Krauss

Microphone on the stage on blue and red dark background.Their discographies are a little bit country, a little bit rock and roll, but when Robert Plant and Allison Krauss take the stage in Vienna this month, you can expect a show like no other.

A Fine Pairing

While both musicians have made unforgettable names for themselves in very different genres, their talents complement each other remarkably well. Krauss has nourished bluegrass and country roots throughout her career, and those roots have grown very naturally into the Americana sound that the duo now enjoys. Her ability to project while controlling the nuances of her dulcet voice – and her handywork with the fiddle – bring a timeless charm to any performance she’s a part of.

Plant’s background is decidedly rock and roll, while Led Zeppelin did often venture into folk territory, especially in their acoustic-heavy third album. After Led Zeppelin moored for the last time, Plant’s on-stage delivery mellowed, and he has since sought projects that allow him to explore the depths of his tone and range without focusing too much on the vocal acrobatics that defined his style in the 1970s.

Together Again

This current tour is far from Plant and Krauss’ first outing together. In fact, they’ve recorded two studio albums together: Raising Sand in 2007 and Raise the Roof in 2021. The albums feature covers and songwriting that span folk traditions on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean, showing the singers’ love and appreciation for blues, country, bluegrass, and other shared inspirations.

With their finely tuned harmony, Plant and Krauss pay tribute to The Everly Brothers, Dorothy LaBostrie, Townes Van Zant, Bobby Moore & the Rhythm Aces, and other greats. They even dip back into their own catalogues for hits like Raising Sand’s “Please Read the Letter.” You might have heard their take on Merle Haggard’s “Going Where the Lonely Go” on the radio, as it was nominated for a Grammy for Best Country Duo/Group Performance.

JD McPherson

Joining Plant and Krauss on the road is singer/songwriter JD McPherson. After making the right impression on what was expected to be a one-off gig, McPherson received a call to join the group on tour. You might already know him from hits like “Lucky Penny” and “It’s All Over But The Shouting.”

When and Where

Robert Plant and Alison Krauss will perform at the Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts on Thursday, June 29. The show starts at 8 p.m. The venue is located at 1551 Trap Road, Vienna, Virginia 22182.
